2024 15,3867,5357,17448.4% 42.2%
2025 14,6378,4256,09641.7% 32.6%

In 2025, the Netherlands’ embassy and consulates in Egypt (Cairo) received 14,637 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 8,425. 41.7% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 48.4%: the rate fell by 6.7 points, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications fell by 5% compared with 2024 (15,386).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 24.2% of the applications lodged in Egypt that year, from 4.4% at the consulates of Romania to 50.9% at those of Sweden. the Netherlands’ consulates worldwide refused 17.7%. The Netherlands was the 6th most applied-for Schengen state in Egypt.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Egypt, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
