2024 18,83714,3434,13922.0% 60.6%
2025 21,39516,5774,81822.4% 64.3%

In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Egypt (Cairo) received 21,395 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 16,577. The refusal rate was 22.4%. That is barely different from 2024 (22.0%). Applications rose by 14% compared with 2024 (18,837).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 24.2% of the applications lodged in Egypt that year, from 4.4% at the consulates of Romania to 50.9% at those of Sweden. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 3rd most applied-for Schengen state in Egypt.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Egypt, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
