Sweden: visa decisions in Colombia

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 1,7711,20155531.6% 16.1%
2024 2,1381,18197145.1% 22.9%

In 2024, Sweden’s embassy and consulates in Colombia (Bogotá) received 2,138 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 1,181. 45.1% of applications were refused. In 2023 it had been 31.6%: the rate rose by 13.5 points, a sharp increase. Applications rose by 21% compared with 2023 (1,771).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 35.1% of the applications lodged in Colombia that year. Sweden’s consulates worldwide refused 24.4%. Sweden was the most applied-for Schengen state in Colombia.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Colombia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
