Italy: visa decisions in Colombia

2023 403825.0% 97.4%
2024 787267.7% 55.6%
2025 605558.3% 41.8%

In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Colombia (Bogotá) received 60 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 55. The refusal rate was 8.3%. That is barely different from 2024 (7.7%). Applications fell by 23% compared with 2024 (78).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 10.0% of the applications lodged in Colombia that year. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 4th most applied-for Schengen state in Colombia.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Colombia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
