Spain: visa decisions in Chile
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 474 | 357 | 94 | 20.8% | 9.8% |
| 2024 | 537 | 409 | 102 | 19.9% | 12.2% |
| 2025 | 631 | 462 | 141 | 23.4% | 9.5% |
In 2025, Spain’s embassy and consulates in Chile (Santiago) received 631 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 462. The refusal rate was 23.4%. The refusal rate rose by 3.5 points from 19.9% in 2024. Applications rose by 18% compared with 2024 (537).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 27.2% of the applications lodged in Chile that year. Spain’s consulates worldwide refused 14.6%. Spain was the most applied-for Schengen state in Chile.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Chile, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
