Netherlands: visa decisions in Chile
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 64 | 53 | 9 | 14.5% | 41.5% |
| 2024 | 58 | 46 | 9 | 16.4% | 32.6% |
| 2025 | 48 | 41 | 7 | 14.6% | 29.3% |
In 2025, the Netherlands’ embassy and consulates in Chile (Santiago) received 48 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 41. The refusal rate was 14.6%. The refusal rate fell by 1.8 points from 16.4% in 2024. Applications fell by 17% compared with 2024 (58).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 27.2% of the applications lodged in Chile that year. the Netherlands’ consulates worldwide refused 17.7%. The Netherlands was the 7th most applied-for Schengen state in Chile.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Chile, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
