Belgium: visa decisions in Chile
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 40 | 22 | 18 | 45.0% | 36.4% |
| 2024 | 40 | 25 | 14 | 35.9% | 32.0% |
| 2025 | 36 | 29 | 7 | 19.4% | 27.6% |
In 2025, Belgium’s embassy and consulates in Chile (Santiago) received 36 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 29. 19.4% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 35.9%: the rate fell by 16.5 points, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications fell by 10% compared with 2024 (40).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 27.2% of the applications lodged in Chile that year. Belgium’s consulates worldwide refused 26.1%. Belgium was the 8th most applied-for Schengen state in Chile.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Chile, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
