Switzerland: visa decisions in Brazil
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 103 | 93 | 10 | 9.7% | 93.5% |
| 2024 | 114 | 107 | 6 | 5.3% | 80.4% |
| 2025 | 118 | 99 | 19 | 16.1% | 79.8% |
In 2025, Switzerland’s embassy and consulates in Brazil (São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro) received 118 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 99. The refusal rate was 16.1%. The refusal rate rose by 10.8 points from 5.3% in 2024, a sharp increase. Applications rose by 4% compared with 2024 (114).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 23.6% of the applications lodged in Brazil that year, from 16.4% at the consulates of France to 57.0% at those of Portugal. Switzerland’s consulates worldwide refused 12.5%. Switzerland was the 7th most applied-for Schengen state in Brazil.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Brazil, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
