Germany: visa decisions in Brazil
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 163 | 142 | 17 | 10.7% | 95.1% |
| 2024 | 164 | 142 | 15 | 9.4% | 94.4% |
| 2025 | 229 | 203 | 23 | 10.1% | 82.3% |
In 2025, Germany’s embassy and consulates in Brazil (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre and Recife) received 229 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 203. The refusal rate was 10.1%. That is barely different from 2024 (9.4%). Applications rose by 40% compared with 2024 (164).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 23.6% of the applications lodged in Brazil that year, from 16.4% at the consulates of France to 57.0% at those of Portugal. Germany’s consulates worldwide refused 13.1%. Germany was the 5th most applied-for Schengen state in Brazil.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Brazil, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
