In 2025, the Netherlands’ embassy and consulates in Australia (Sydney) received 2,129 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 1,899. 8.8% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 13.6%: the rate fell by 4.8 points. Applications rose by 25% compared with 2024 (1,701).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 3.0% of the applications lodged in Australia that year. the Netherlands’ consulates worldwide refused 17.7%. The Netherlands was the 4th most applied-for Schengen state in Australia.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Australia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
