Belgium: visa decisions in Australia

2024 579509224.1% 10.0%
2025 50843992.0% 6.4%

In 2025, Belgium’s embassy and consulates in Australia (Canberra) received 508 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 439. The refusal rate was 2.0%. The refusal rate fell by 2.1 points from 4.1% in 2024. Applications fell by 12% compared with 2024 (579).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 3.0% of the applications lodged in Australia that year, from 0.6% at the consulates of Switzerland to 8.8% at those of the Netherlands. Belgium’s consulates worldwide refused 26.1%. Belgium was the 8th most applied-for Schengen state in Australia.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Australia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
