Bulgaria: visa decisions in Armenia

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2024 (part of the year) 4,7193,141451.3% 15.6%
2025 7,3747,0342924.0% 13.3%

In 2025, Bulgaria’s embassy and consulates in Armenia (Yerevan) received 7,374 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 7,034. The refusal rate was 4.0%. The refusal rate rose by 2.7 points from 1.3% in 2024. Applications rose by 56% compared with 2024 (4,719).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 10.9% of the applications lodged in Armenia that year, from 0.9% at the consulates of Romania to 21.9% at those of Greece. Bulgaria’s consulates worldwide refused 12.5%. Bulgaria was the 6th most applied-for Schengen state in Armenia.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. Bulgaria only began issuing Schengen visas on 31 March 2024, so its 2024 figures cover part of the year. The figures cover applications lodged in Armenia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
