Italy: visa decisions in Algeria

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 26,18815,56910,45339.9% 80.1%
2024 25,41815,8929,30536.6% 72.5%
2025 27,83817,9149,92435.4% 71.9%

In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Algeria (Algiers) received 27,838 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 17,914. The refusal rate was 35.4%. That is barely different from 2024 (36.6%). Applications rose by 10% compared with 2024 (25,418).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 31.3% of the applications lodged in Algeria that year, from 27.5% at the consulates of Finland to 81.9% at those of Malta. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 3rd most applied-for Schengen state in Algeria.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Algeria, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
