How visas for Yemen work
Visas for Yemen are approved by the Immigration, Passports and Nationality Authority of the Ministry of Interior, which works from Aden, designated by the internationally recognised government as its temporary capital. Since 24 June 2025 applications go through the Authority's eVisa portal, built with the International Organization for Migration and linked to Yemeni embassies, consulates and the country's official land, sea and air entry points.
The portal lists 15 categories, all open to the 247 nationalities on its eligibility list: visit and family visit visas sponsored by a host, a study visit visa, group and urgent tourist visas arranged by licensed agencies, business and work visas, a 72-hour transit visa, special visas issued at the port, a multi-entry visa, diplomatic visas and exit or exit and re-entry visas for people already in Yemen. Fees range from USD 25 to USD 300 and are paid in cash in US dollars, through the host in Aden or a Yemeni mission, until electronic payment is introduced.
In most categories the Authority's approval is followed by a visa sticker issued at a Yemeni embassy or consulate; urgent tourist, special and companion visas are issued at the port of arrival. Every category asks for a passport valid at least six months, and most ask for a health certificate stating that you are free of infectious diseases. The portal does not publish lengths of stay for its categories.
This guide is based on the sources of the internationally recognised government. Those sources do not describe entry arrangements in areas where other authorities exercise control, so this guide does not cover them.
