Suriname tourist visa and Entry Fee

Visa-free tourist entry with Entry Fee

In short

Since 1 July 2022, Suriname has unilaterally abolished visas for travellers of most nationalities visiting for tourism or family visits, for stays of up to 90 days, replacing them with an Entry Fee. The exceptions, listed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (BIBIS) from 1 May 2023, are 21 countries, and Mexico and Bolivia were later added. Everyone else pays the Entry Fee of USD 50 or EUR 50, plus a VFS Global service fee of USD 8 or EUR 8, online before travelling, for each entry.

Visa-free entry and the Entry Fee

From 1 July 2022 the Government of Suriname introduced a unilateral visa abolition: citizens of the countries concerned may travel to Suriname without a visa for tourism or family visits for a maximum stay of 90 days. In return, all such travellers pay an Entry Fee to be admitted. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains that the visa was abolished worldwide in 2022 and replaced by the Entry Fee, and that in 2023 the visa requirement was reinstated for 21 countries for reasons of national security.

The 21 countries are the Dominican Republic, India, Venezuela, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Angola, Ghana, Cameroon, Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia, South Africa, Eritrea, Somalia, Egypt, Tunisia, Cuba and Syria. Nationals of all other countries visit visa-free for tourism and family visits. In 2026 the Government also announced the reintroduction of visas for travellers from Mexico and Bolivia.

Who does not pay the Entry Fee

Exempt groups include people with a valid visa in their passport, holders of a valid PSA document or card or a Surinamese residence permit, holders of passports from CARICOM member states, holders of diplomatic, service, special and official passports, holders of a laissez-passer issued by an international organisation, Vatican passport holders and passengers in transit at Zanderij or Zorg en Hoop airports.

Paying the Entry Fee

The Entry Fee is USD 50 or EUR 50, excluding the VFS Global service fee of USD 8 or EUR 8, and is due on every entry. Since 1 January 2023 it is paid online through the official Suriname e-visa portal run by VFS Global: upload the passport bio-data page and a recent photo no older than six months, register your email address with a one-time password, pay by credit card or iDeal and download the single- or multiple-entry voucher sent by email.

The voucher is shown at the airline check-in counter and at the border. Physical payment is possible only at listed points, such as the Consulate General in Cayenne, the office in Saint Laurent or Canawaima Management at South Drain when arriving overland, and the Ministry recommends paying online before departure.

Before you fly

The Ministry stresses that travellers are responsible for having the correct documents, and that the Entry Fee voucher, together with the Immigration and Customs Form, is required to enter.
