Senegal business visa for meetings and conferences

Short-stay entry visa for business trips, conferences and events

In short

Senegal does not run a separate business visa: business travellers use the same short-stay entry visa, valid for stays of less than three months, and state the companies or event they will visit on the form. Citizens of exempt countries attend meetings visa-free with a six-month passport, but neither route allows paid work in Senegal.

Who uses this visa

The application form used by Senegalese missions has a single short-stay visa with purpose fields for business trips, congresses and events, and university or technical training stays. A business visitor names the companies and their addresses in Senegal; a conference participant gives the organiser, venue, dates and duration. Nationals of the 59 exempt countries, such as EU citizens, Britons, Americans, Canadians, Chinese, Indians and Moroccans, do not need a visa for a business trip of less than three months.

Business travellers of visa-required nationalities apply at the Senegalese embassy or consulate for their place of residence. If you plan to take up employment or run a business from Senegal for longer, the short-stay visa is not the right status; you will need the carte d'identité d'étranger after arrival.

What you may and may not do

By signing the form you declare that you will not accept any paid employment during the stay, will not try to settle permanently and will leave when the visa expires. A false statement can lead to prosecution and to refusal of any future visa. Meetings, negotiations, trade fairs and conference attendance are the activities the form is designed for.

Documents for a business trip

The basic file is the same as for tourism: the signed form, passport photos, a passport valid for at least six months with copies, a return ticket or reservation and proof of accommodation. On the form, list the companies you will meet with their addresses, or describe the event. The consulates warn that further documents may be requested depending on the case, so an invitation letter from your Senegalese counterpart or the event's registration confirmation is worth bringing, and the mission may ask for it.

Fees and timing

The Paris consulate's form states EUR 15.25. Other missions collect their own fee, and none of the official sources gives a fixed processing time. Category C nationals should allow extra time for the Interior Ministry's clearance, and the Bordeaux consulate advises asking about delays before buying tickets.

Support for investors

APIX, Senegal's investment promotion agency, runs a one-stop shop for company formation. Its guide to the investment code bill (No. 16/2025, presented to the National Assembly on 15 September 2025) lists, under Article 27, help from the promotion agency with dealings with public administrations and facilitation of visas and residence permits for foreign investors, available to investors registered in the investors' directory. Ask APIX about the current status of these measures before relying on them.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Check whether your nationality is visa-exempt; if so, travel on a passport valid for six months for a trip of less than three months.
  2. Collect the names and addresses of the companies you will visit, or the event's organiser, venue and dates.
  3. Complete and sign the short-stay visa form, ticking business or congress as the purpose.
  4. Contact or book an appointment at the Senegalese mission for your residence and submit the file in person.
  5. Pay the mission's visa fee and collect the passport once the visa is issued.
