Fee and timing
The current fee table lists SAT$200 for any applicant for a family reunion or support permit. Processing takes about 10 working days, with an optional SAT$100 urgent fee. The form advises lodging 30 days before the intended travel date and paying in the currency of the country where you lodge.
The host's sponsorship
A local sponsor who wants to sponsor an overseas relative completes the temporary resident sponsorship form MPMC104, giving their address in Samoa, occupation, employer, relationship to the person sponsored and evidence of their capacity to meet the financial obligation. The sponsor declares that they will be liable for all costs of the care, maintenance and treatment of the person and family named on the form while in Samoa, and for their conveyance from Samoa, including any cost the Government incurs.
Work and other permits
A family permit is not an employment permit. Dependants of principal permit holders, however, may seek authority to work during the validity of the principal's permit, using the permission-to-work part of MPMC100. Spouses and children of people coming to work, invest or study are normally listed as dependants on the principal's application rather than applying for this permit, and the form asks applicants with other dependants to contact the Immigration Office for advice.
Offices
The MPMC Immigration main office is on Level 1 of the FMFMII Government Building, Eleele Fou, Apia, telephone +685 20291, with a second office in the SNPF Building in Savai'i. The MPMC100 form also lists Samoan missions in Wellington, Auckland, Canberra, New York and Brussels, where applications can be lodged from abroad.
