Conditions

You must have worked at least three months for the company outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland and be transferred as a manager, specialist or trainee. In the past six months you must not have been transferred to the Netherlands, or have reached the maximum transfer duration.

The contract must state the length of the transfer, the location of the Dutch branch, your role, pay and conditions, and that you can return to a branch outside the EU afterwards. The Dutch branch must carry out real economic activity and not exist mainly to facilitate transfers, and the employer must not have been fined in the previous five years under the Foreign Nationals Employment Act or for unpaid taxes or contributions.

Salary

Pay must match the market and is checked against the highly skilled migrant salary criterion; for 2026 that is EUR 5,942 gross a month from age 30 and EUR 4,357 under 30.

Processing

The IND must decide within 90 days; the employee insurance agency UWV may give advice within five weeks. The MVV is valid for 90 days after it is issued.

MVV collection and arrival

After a positive IND decision you book an appointment within three months at the Dutch embassy or consulate responsible for your place of residence to have the MVV sticker placed; the MVV is valid for 90 days. After arrival you register with the municipality (BRP) to receive a citizen service number (BSN) and collect your residence document at an IND desk.

Work, mobility and switching

You may work at the Dutch branch and, alongside it, as self-employed; work for another employer needs a TWV. With an ICT permit from another EU state you can work in the Netherlands for up to 90 days in 180 without a Dutch permit after the employer notifies the UWV; longer stays need a mobile ICT permit. Denmark and Ireland do not take part. After three years (trainees one year) you can switch to a highly skilled migrant permit with the same employer if it is a recognised sponsor and you meet that scheme’s conditions.
