Iraq e-visa: who can use it, documents and the online application
Iraqi electronic visa (e-visa, evisa.iq)
In short
Iraq's Ministry of Interior issues electronic visas through evisa.iq, so most visitors no longer need to visit an embassy. The e-visa is valid for 30 days, can be single or multiple entry, and is emailed to you after online payment; you print it and present it at the border.

What the Iraqi e-visa is and who uses it
The e-visa is run by the Directorate of Residency Affairs of the Ministry of Interior, the same authority that approves every Iraqi visa. It replaces the trip to an embassy or consulate: you fill in the form online, pay, and receive the visa by email. Iraqi embassies, such as the one in Washington, now direct ordinary visitors to the portal.
Nationality-specific eligibility is published through a search tool on evisa.iq that filters by country and passport type (ordinary, diplomatic, service, special). For US passport holders, the Embassy in Washington announced that the e-visa has been available since 1 March 2025.
What you need to apply
The portal asks for a valid passport and a digital personal photo with a white background. Iraqi embassies add two items to the list: proof of residence and a personal email address at which you will receive the visa. Under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' general rules your passport must be valid for at least six months, and you should be able to give your address in Iraq and show that you can cover your living costs during the stay.
Children under 15 need a health certificate showing full polio vaccination (at least five doses of oral vaccine) according to the instructions published by Iraqi missions.

Fees and payment
Fees are paid online by a secure payment method during the application; evisa.iq does not publish a fee table, and the amount is shown before you pay. Check the amount on the payment page before confirming, because a new application after a refusal or an expired visa means paying again.
Validity and processing
The e-visa is valid for 30 days and can be single or multiple entry. The portal itself does not state a processing time but offers status tracking, so apply well before the trip.
An expired visa cannot be extended. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that a new approval with new fees is needed, so plan the trip within the validity window.
At the border
Print the e-visa and show it at the border crossing, together with the passport used in the application. You must enter through an official land, sea or air crossing. Holding a visa does not override the general grounds for refusing entry listed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, such as public health, security or a previous deportation order.
How to apply, step by step
- Check on evisa.iq, using the visa search by country and passport type, which visa applies to you.
- Open the application portal (eservice.evisa.iq) and complete the form exactly as in your passport.
- Upload the passport scan, the white-background photo and any other documents requested.
- Pay the fee online by card.
- Track the application and wait for the e-visa by email.
- Print the e-visa and present it with your passport at the Iraqi border crossing.
