Who can enter without a visa

The Embassy of Haiti in Washington explains that tourists travelling to Haiti generally do not need a visa. The Haitian embassy in France puts it the same way: most foreign nationals can travel to Haiti without one. The Embassy of Haiti in Canada adds that no prior visa is required for stays of less than 90 days and that entry formalities are completed on the spot by the Haitian immigration authorities at any international airport or land border post.

The exceptions are nationals of the Dominican Republic, Panama, Colombia, Cuba, Syria, Libya, Iran, Vietnam and Yemen. They need a visa before travelling. Diplomatic and official visas are a separate category issued on diplomatic or official passports and United Nations laissez-passer at the request of the employing institution.

Entry conditions for every visitor

A passport valid for at least six months is required; the embassy in France specifies six months beyond the planned return date. Visitors pay an entry fee on arrival, given by the Washington embassy as US$10 at the airport; the embassy in France says children aged 0 to 5 and holders of diplomatic or official passports are exempt.

Every foreigner receives a green card titled Départ/Sòti on arrival and must hand it in when leaving; losing it can cause difficulties with immigration at departure. The DIE is replacing paper cards with the iKat digital card, launched operationally in Cap-Haïtien on 12 March 2026 under a decree of 31 December 2025, so check which form applies at your port of entry.

Tourist visa for the nine listed nationalities

Nationals who need a visa apply at least one month before departure. The Washington embassy asks for a completed and signed application form, two recent colour passport photos and a letter explaining the purpose and length of the stay. The letter must give the name, address and telephone number of the hotel or private home where the applicant will stay, and be supported by a passport valid six months, a copy of the airline reservation or return ticket, and a letter from the current employer.

The Embassy of Haiti in Canada, for applicants residing there, also asks for proof of status in Canada, a 35 x 45 mm photo on the form, and a request note from the institution sponsoring the visa or the applicant's presence in person.

Payment is by certified cheque or cashier's cheque payable to the Embassy of Haiti; the tourist visa page also accepts money orders, while cash and personal cheques are not accepted. The consular section receives requests Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 14:00. The Embassy of Haiti in Canada takes its visa fees in Canadian currency, by certified cheque, postal money order or cash.

iKat and staying beyond 90 days

iKat collects personal, travel, flight or land transport, customs and health information for everyone entering or leaving Haiti, Haitian or foreign. Each family member, including children, needs a separate form, and a new form is needed for every trip. The DIE page mentions completing it 72 hours ahead, while its FAQ refers to 48 hours; travellers who have not done it beforehand must complete it before reaching the control points. Submitted data can be corrected with the form code and passport number.

Visitors who want to stay longer than 90 days must contact the DIE before the courtesy period expires and apply for a permis de séjour.

  4. Complete the iKat form online before your flight and keep the QR code.
  5. On arrival, pass immigration, pay the entry fee and keep any departure card you receive.
