How visas for Eswatini work

Entry to the Kingdom of Eswatini is managed by the Ministry of Home Affairs under the country's Immigration Act. Visas are needed only by nationals of the countries on the ministry's list of countries requiring a visa; anyone whose country is not on that list does not need to apply. The ministry states that no country on the list is exempt from visa fees, although officials on government duty, United Nations passport holders and delegates on official business with the office of King Mswati III do not pay.

Visas can be applied for online through the official eVisa portal (evisa.gov.sz), at the Ministry of Home Affairs headquarters or at Eswatini's missions abroad. The eVisa exists in tourist and business versions, is processed in two to five business days, is valid for a single entry within 90 days of issue and allows a stay of up to 30 days. Visas are not issued on arrival.

A visa covers tourists, business visitors, interns and volunteers. Anyone who will stay longer than 30 days, or who wants to study or work in Eswatini, must apply for a Temporary Residence Permit instead, and prospective immigrants apply under the temporary or permanent residence criteria. A yellow fever certificate is needed only if you pass through a yellow fever area before arriving.
