Bahrain family visit visa: visiting relatives in Bahrain

General visit visa – family visit

In short

To visit relatives living in Bahrain you either apply yourself on the NPRA eVisa portal under "General Visit – Family Visit", if your nationality is on the online list, or a guarantor in Bahrain applies for you. Companies registered as eVisa guarantors can apply for their employees' family members, and Bahraini citizens can also act as guarantors.

Key facts

Processing time
About 3 to 5 working days according to NPRA; some cases take longer. The decision is sent by email.
Family
A visit visa for each relative; every person, children included, needs their own passport and application.
Where to apply
Online at evisa.gov.bh, or through a guarantor in Bahrain (employer registered on the eVisa system or a Bahraini citizen).

Who this visa is for

The family visit option is a general visit visa for people coming to see relatives who live or work in Bahrain. It is not a residence permit: it covers a stay of limited length set out in the visa conditions, and family members who want to live in Bahrain need a residence route instead.

In the eVisa eligibility form you choose "General Visit" and then "Family Visit". Whether you can apply yourself depends on your nationality: nationals on the online list file the application on their own; others need a guarantor in Bahrain.

Applying yourself online

Self-applicants follow the standard eVisa process: eligibility check, "See conditions", the online form, document upload in every requested category and a first card payment. NPRA decides in about 3 to 5 working days and emails you; after approval you finish under "Pay for Application" and print the visa.

Each visitor needs their own application and passport. Children endorsed in a parent's passport cannot be added to the parent's application.

  1. Check whether your nationality is on the online list; if not, ask your relative's employer (if registered on the eVisa system) or a Bahraini citizen to act as guarantor.
  2. To apply yourself, open evisa.gov.bh, choose "Apply for a Visa" and select General Visit – Family Visit with your nationality.
  3. Read the conditions of each visa type offered to you ("See conditions"), complete the CAPTCHA and press "Apply now" for the right one.
  4. Fill in the online form and upload a file in every requested document category; the Next button stays inactive until all are attached.
  5. Pay the first payment by credit card and write down the application reference number. Several applications can be paid with one card using "Submit another application".
  6. Wait for NPRA's email, usually within 3 to 5 working days. If corrections are requested, fix them under "Visa Data Correction" within 7 days.
  7. After approval, return to the portal, choose "Pay for Application", retrieve your application and complete the remaining payment.
  8. Print the visa from "Check your Visa" and travel with the same passport you used in the application.

Forms

Extending your stay

A visit visa can be extended after arrival. NPRA accepts extension requests at its main office on Exhibitions Avenue in Manama (Building One, ground floor) and at the Ministry of Interior service centre in Muharraq (Building 378, Sheikh Hamad Street, Complex 211). The eVisa portal also links to an online extension service on the Bahrain.bh government portal.

An extension fee is charged. The portal does not publish the amount or the maximum length of an extension, so check the conditions of your visa type and apply before your permitted stay ends.

Applying through a guarantor

If your nationality is not on the online list, a guarantor in Bahrain must apply. NPRA names Bahraini companies and Bahraini citizens among the possible guarantors. Organisations with a Bahraini commercial registration can register on the eVisa portal as "registered users"; the portal says this lets them apply for visas for their employees' family members, business clients and visitors.

A registered user is an employee of the organisation itself, not a clearing agent. Registration needs the printed application, an authorisation letter to NPRA, a copy of the commercial registration and the user's ID card reader printout, all stamped by the organisation. Registered users benefit from reduced documentation for applications, and the visa types available depend on the nature of the guarantor's business.

Refusals, corrections and fees that are not refunded

NPRA does not refund the processing fee when an application is refused, and holding a visa does not guarantee entry: if an immigration officer refuses you at the border, no part of the fee is returned. After a refusal you may submit a new application; the refusal email tells you whether to contact NPRA or a Bahraini embassy.

Submitted applications cannot be edited. If NPRA finds wrong data or a missing attachment, it emails you, and you must open "Visa Data Correction" and fix only those items within 7 days of the notice, otherwise the application is cancelled. For any other mistake you have to request cancellation from the email address used in the application, quoting the visa reference number, and then apply again.

Frequently asked questions

Can my relative's employer in Bahrain apply for my visit visa?

Yes, if the company is registered on the eVisa portal as a guarantor. NPRA says registered users can apply for their employees' family members.

Can I apply for a family visit visa alone?

Yes, if your nationality is on NPRA's online list: you apply on evisa.gov.bh under General Visit – Family Visit without a guarantor. Otherwise a guarantor in Bahrain applies for you.

Does a family visit visa let my parents live with me in Bahrain?

No. It is a visit visa for a limited stay. Living in Bahrain requires a residence permit, which is a separate procedure.

How long does a Bahrain visa application take?

NPRA gives about 3 to 5 working days and says exceptional cases can take longer. You are told by email when a decision is made.

Is the Bahrain visa fee refunded if I am refused?

No. NPRA keeps the processing fee when an application is not approved, and nothing is refunded if you hold a visa but are refused entry at the border.
