How visas for Antigua and Barbuda work
Entry to Antigua and Barbuda is governed by the Immigration and Passport Act 2014 and administered by the Immigration Department. Its visa-exemption list covers EU countries, Commonwealth countries and a further group that includes the United States, China, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Switzerland, Norway, Türkiye and the UAE; citizens of China and Cuba are exempt only for trips of up to 30 days. Visa-exempt visitors on holiday or business may stay as long as their business takes, up to six months, provided they have an onward or return ticket, confirmed accommodation, evidence of means and a valid passport.
Nationals who need a visa apply through the electronic visa system, paying by Mastercard or Visa; multiple-entry visas for one year are possible. Visa-required travellers holding a valid US, Canadian, UK or Schengen visa or residence card can instead receive a single-entry tourist visa on arrival for up to 30 days, for US$100 per person. Cruise visitors leaving the same day and airside transit passengers within 24 hours do not need a visa.
Visitors may not work, paid or unpaid. Longer stays are handled by the Immigration Department through extensions of stay, student permits renewed annually and resident permits, which are granted for up to three years to people who have lived lawfully in the country for four years, have been married to a citizen for one year or fall into other categories such as persons of independent means after two years.
