Where to apply
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul states that its embassies and consulates abroad issue Afghan visas in all categories, and its list of foreign missions covers about two dozen countries. Before applying, contact the mission you plan to use and confirm which documents it wants and how the fee is paid.
- Contact the Afghan embassy or consulate you plan to use and confirm current requirements and payment.
- Complete the visa application form of the mission responsible for your country of residence with accurate details (some missions use an online form) and print it.
- Prepare your passport, hotel booking and any documents the mission requests.
- Submit the application and pay the USD 80 fee as instructed by the mission.
- Hand in the form and attachments at the mission during its opening hours, or by appointment if it requires one.
- Collect your passport from the mission once the visa is issued.
- Enter within three months and leave within the one-month stay.
Staying longer
The Ministry does not list the tourist visa among the visas that can be continued with a residence visa, which it reserves for service, business, entry, student and crew visas. Plan the trip within the one-month stay. If a foreigner cannot extend a visa because of detention, a travel ban or another justified reason, an exit visa allows six days to leave.
