Austria’s embassies and consulates outside the Schengen area received 250,112 short-stay visa applications in 2025, the 11th highest number among the 28 Schengen states, and issued 213,694 visas. The refusal rate was 11.9%. The refusal rate fell by 1.8 points from 13.7% in 2024. Applications fell by 5% compared with 2024 (262,017).

The busiest countries were India (48,761), China (48,345), Saudi Arabia (18,942), Turkey (15,142) and Thailand (12,682). Among the ten busiest, refusal rates ranged from 0.0% in Indonesia to 22.1% in India.
